Your RV’s roof isn’t invincible, unfortunately. Between traveling the country, periods of sitting dormant or in storage, and general wear and tear over time, there are several reasons your RV roof may need an overhaul. A few of the main causes of damage to RV roofs include:
- Environmental factors
- Using the roof improperly
- Lack of upkeep
No matter the cause of the damage, you want to be sure that your roof is properly repaired by a reputable repair shop. A roof that has seen its better days, combined with low-quality servicing is a recipe for disaster as far as the longevity of your RV goes.
Environmental Factors
Whether you live in north Texas or just happen to be traveling through, you’ll quickly realize that weather can be unpredictably moody. From harsh UV rays and sunshine beating down on your RV to hailstorms, the threat of lightning, and even temperature fluctuations, your RV roof has a lot of environmental factors to contend with.
UV rays can cause the roofing material to warp and crack, to ultimately deteriorate over time, and if you’re caught in a windstorm, even the force of the wind could be strong enough to move your RV, causing sealant cracks, which is an invitation for water leaks. To top it off, if you go through extreme temperature changes, the temperature alone might be enough to cause your sealant to crack!
